NH House to vote today on repeal

The New Hampshire House of Representatives is expected to vote today (March 14) on a sort of flea flicker bill aimed at having the legislature repeal marriage equality by asking voters to express support for civil unions.

The prospects for the idea to pass out of the Republican-controlled State House are uncertain because the plan would require Republicans to support legal recognition of same-sex relationships –something Republicans in the State House are reluctant to do. Plus Democratic Governor John Lynch has vowed to veto any measure to deny gay couples equal rights.

The legislation is also a lawsuit waiting to happen. It would take away from one group of citizens –gays– rights they have been able to exercise for the past two years in New Hampshire.

The bill’s sponsor, Rep. David Bates, is apparently hoping his revised plan will provide some cover for Republicans politically by getting voters to weigh in on the issue, although they won’t be literally voting on repeal. Bates has also tried to smooth the path by amending his bill to allow some 1,900 existing same-sex couples with marriage licenses to retain their married status.

What is it with these people? What great problem is it that SSM has created such that it needs to be repealed? I am bewildered why this crowd is so wound around the axle about this issue. There must be some reason. Really, they ought to focus on real issues and stop wasting everyone’s time on a problem that does not exist. That ship has sailed. Get over already!

Well as we all know civilization ended here in NH after some people some of us don’t like got married.

The determination of the right to impose their morality on all of us is shocking. They have declared a war on women, are hell bent on stripping our gay friends and neighbors of their rights, and are out trying their best to make voting as difficult as possible, especially for people who might vote them out of office.

Throw the bums out. Every last one of them.
